FM declares Iran`s will to strengthen regional cooperation

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in a meeting with the new Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Khurshid Anwar on Saturday declared Iran`s will to strengthen multifaceted regional cooperation.
The foreign minister referred to ECO`s unique capacities to become a strong and integrated regional body and said that the preliminary measures have been taken to achieve this.
He urged the need for serious pursuance of the agreements reached to the effect and their implementation.
Turning to approval of ECO 10-year vision plan in the organization`s meeting last year, Mottaki reiterated the need to give priority to relevant programs and promote the website providing information on ECO member states.
The foreign minister noted that heads of ECO member states have called for such measure.
He underlined the importance of strengthening ECO communication with other regional economic bodies, adding that such contacts will develop the organization and help it to further identify its potentials.
Mottaki hoped that during his term in office, the new secretary general will manage to expand ECO participation and presence on regional and global scenes.
The minister declared Iran`s further support and readiness for cooperation with ECO secretary general and strengthening of the organization`s secretariat.
