Iraq`s Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed Hajj Hamoud said on Saturday that new chapter has been opened in cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad. The Iraqi official made the remark in a reception held in Iran`s embassy in Baghdad. Referring to historical and deep-rooted ties between the two countries, he said, `We share many commonalties with the Iranian nation and are proud of them. ` Iran`s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African countries Mohammad-Reza Baqeri and the Iranian staffers were also present in the reception. `We are to broaden all-out ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran,` he said. On his part, Baqeri said `Our presence in Iraq indicates to what extent Maliki`s government has been successful in administering Iraq,` he said. `We call for a calm and stable region and we will spare no efforts to help restore security to Iraq,` he said. A number of Iraqi experts and director general of the country`s Foreign Ministry were present in the meeting. The Iranian envoy is to confer with the Iraqi foreign minister on issues of mutual interests.
